Director Alfonso Cuaron takes a creative stab at the long-shot format in Children of Men. In two notable scenes in which he wanted an unbroken “documentary style” sequence, he pulled off the impossible by shooting a car interior and a street/explosion scene with no cuts. He used an elaborate rig for the car and more choreography than a ballet, resulting in a raw-feeling scene that puts the viewer front and center in the action. Check out a making-of video from the DVD on YouTube.
