Web 2.0 is intended to give users more control over what they do and what they see. Does this mean that companies loose control over what they put out? Not really. Some times things just get more attention than expected.
Take for example the situation with Mr. Splashy Pants. Not familiar? Mr. Splashy Pants is the name of a whale that Greenpeace is saving. The idea was to have a contest on the web that would allow people to send in names for the whale and thus, give a name to the cause for more impact. The result was more responses than expected. By simply placing the name-campaign on a few social sites the number of entries and activity was amazing.
Web 2.0 is an asset that many still don’t take advantage of or don’t understand how to take advantage of. At ECMS we inform our clients on how they can use the online community to get valuable input and spread a message across many users without spending a lot of money. Creating content that users want is the most important factor.
