It has been reported that Paris Hilton and Kasey Kahne met at a club in California recently and rumors are spreading about what happened during their interaction. Kasey is a well mannered, respected driver in NASCAR, and Paris is a celebrity in LA. Chances are that they just happened to be in the same place at the same time and someone introduced the two, and that’s it.
Being in the marketing business and working with large companies it is strange to think how a Paris Hilton interaction could effect our clients and professional careers.
Here’s a what if to ponder: Let’s say you are a young VP of a company in the growing city of Charlotte, NC and you happen to be out at an event in Los Angeles. After the event you and your coworkers go out on the town and treat yourselves to dinner at one of the finner restaurants in the area. Who else happens to be there but Paris Hilton, and she notices said young VP of the company. The two of you are introduced and you, along with the rest of the group, leave the restaurant together. But Paris and the VP walk out together and as always happens the paparazzi snap a photo of Paris and her “New Man”, as the headlines would say, and word spreads faster than you can react. You are now linked to Paris Hilton, enjoy the next 15 minutes of your life. The tabloids search relentlessly for information on you, who you are, where you are from, who your parents are, why are you with Paris?
Now what is the company going to do when that photo is released? What are your customers going to do? What is said VP’s wife and family going to think? Is your company prepared if there is a Paris event? Is it true any press is good press? Would you enjoy your 15 minutes in the spotlight?
